The Kind Of Love I'm Talking About

Turn on the radio
Everybody is talking about love
Flick the TV channels
Everybody is talking about love
They are all talking about love
The talking heads and the rap artists, they are all talking about love
But are we talking about the same kind of love?
Because the kind of love I am talking about is the kind of love
That does not harden our hearts with anger and bitterness but
Loves all people, even those who seem to be farthest away
Love that begets repentant hearts, merciful hearts, hearts of compassion

My sister says she is in love
My friend says he has been hurt by love
My co-worker says she is looking for love but can not find it
They are all talking about love
Every love song and every love movie, they are all talking about love
But are we talking about the same kind of love?
Because the kind of love I am talking about is the kind of love
That is not just a fleeting feeling but a lasting commitment
That does not just take but gives, does not destroy but nurtures
Love that does not seek the other but attracts the love in another

Dropping her child off to school, mom shouts out, "I love you!"
The Manager raises his glass in a toast, "Man, you're really loved around here!"
The ailing neighbour looking out the window smiles, "She is so full of love!"
They are all talking about love
Every turn, every corner, every street, they are all talking about love
But are we talking about the same kind of love?
Because the kind of love I am talking about is the kind of love
That makes you want to make the world safer for all children in the world
That has you doing the happy dance because someone else is successful
Love that moves you to tears of joy when you see someone else laughing

On Sunday the Pastor said God loves us all, even sinners
The other day the Sheikh said love brings about peace
For years the Dalai Lama has been saying love is our real purpose here on earth
They are all talking about love
In the church, in the mosque and in the temple, they are all talking about love
But are we talking about the same kind of love?
Because the kind of love I am talking about is the kind of love
That is never boastful, nor arrogant, nor rude, or phony
Love that is not quick to take offense and has no limit to its endurance
The kind of love that lights up our world and shines bright long after we're all gone

They are all talking about love
Everybody is talking about love
But what kind of love are you talking about?
Because the kind of love I am talking about is the kind of love
That envies no one and forgives everyone
That is patient and treats everyone as one wants to be treated
That has no limit to its faith and no end to its hope
The kind of love that makes you want to say it - and say it loud and freely
Love that won't let you look the other way but moves you to positive action
The kind of love that loves purely for love's sake
That is the kind of love I am talking about

PS: The kind of love I am talking about does not mean unconditional CRAP absorption. There's a limit to how much crap one can absorb.
